BAND INSTRUMENT NOTE RECOGNITION WORKSHOP

Here it is!  This is the place to be if you play a band instrument, and want a guide to help you match the pitches that you play on your instrument.  I have tried to cover every wind instrument that are played in our bands, including one non-wind instrument (the bells) to help out the percussionists.  It is fairly easy to use:
  • Find your instrument in one of the drop down menus below and click on it.

  • You will come to a page with a large amount of notes covering the range of your instrument.

  • Find the note(s) you would like to match and click on it.  A midi file will play a 10 second example of the note.

  • Listen to the note a couple of times, and then try to match it on your instrument.  Play along with the example, and do a call and response with it, with you listening to the note then playing it.

THINGS YOU NEED TO MAKE THESE PAGES WORK ON YOUR MACHINE:

1.  INTERNET EXPLORER - For some reason, I can't get the graphics to appear in Netscape, no matter what format I use, so to see the notes on the instrument pages, you need to be using Internet Explorer.

2.  MEDIA PLAYER - You will need ONE of the following:  Windows Media Player, Musicmatch, Realplayer, Itunes, or some other media player that plays MIDI files.

SELECT YOUR INSTRUMENT FROM THE MENUS BELOW:
